What Does It Mean to Be Black in the American Education System?
Some people might argue that racism is no longer a problem in American culture, but the truth is, it still is there and is affecting more people than in the past. The administration declines the discrimination and racism narratives, but the reality is that it is still causing social problems for minorities. The students feel high levels of stress due to the racial discrimination caused at school which is very unfortunate.
The results of every survey conducted to see the truth showed the sad side of the story. These surveys found that black Americans experience discrimination throughout their academic years in some form. It is reported that these students find it difficult to continue their studies due to the poor behavior they face in their day-to-day lives. In some cases, families end up homeschooling their kids because the treatments are just too harsh for the sensitive child.
African-American Achievement Gap
Early childhood education is a very important aspect of any individual’s life as it provides a great base for career and work options, economic stability, and social opportunities. School performance influences the future opportunities of the students. When we talk about the opportunities of the locals and minorities in the education system, we find that the minorities often have less success in their academic years than the locals. This case is often observed in the American education system, where the Native Americans are more successful in their careers due to their college and university education than the African Americans, who have less education. This causes a gap in educational achievement between Americans and African Americans. The black children face prejudice that leads to low test scores, low self-confidence, and less motivation to get higher education. That is why; they often drop out early to avoid such circumstances.
This gap is a problem for the black students and their families and communities as it affects the well-being of the entire nation. This gap affects the social and economic trends of the country as the individuals have little education. We need to remember that for a nation to progress, every single person’s growth is important. We need to become a support system for minorities for them to grow and develop their lives, to develop society in return.
Need to Overcome the Man-Made Barriers
Every child needs a push to learn and experience life. This motivation needs to be consistent for them to have a better future. In our society, we need to understand that prejudice and racial discrimination are only affecting us negatively. It needs to be stopped so societies can develop with ease.
